Bergen

MAIN_2

Now I am back in Norway and the travelling is on the minimum, but for once I can explore Norway a bit more. It is nice to check out your home place for a little bit. So the first place I went was Bergen! I have a friend there studying and she had room for me for a weekend. So why not!

Bergen is beautiful, when it is not raining. And incredible enough it was not raining once while I were there! Just sun and beautiful snow. We went up Fløien, saw the christmas lights, went out on town, saw the gingerbread house town and saw a theater play. What a dream trip. So now you can have a peak at it:

Iceland

I really miss traveling these days. As I now have finished UNI and are about to leave for Norway, the question on whats next occurs on conversations all the time. Most of the time I would love to say “I am going to travel the world!”, but that would be a lie, at least for now.

So to help on the travel blues I am now going to tell you about a amazing business trip I took to Iceland in April! I were so lucky to get a job with the travel company Discover the world in London and they sent me to Iceland to document

one of their class trips. And what a class trip!

We went everywhere! I got to drive snowmobile on the top of a volcano, crawl in to caves, walk on glaciers, see seals, drive through the most amazing landscapes. One day we woke up to snow, during the day it turned into sun, then fog and in the end of the day it was raining! What a mess 😛

But if you ever get the opportunity or time to go to Iceland DO IT!!! It is the most magical place I know, I have been there twice and I want to go back again! AMAZING!

Have a closer look at what I did in Iceland on the official Discover Iceland with Discover the World video:

Featherdale wildlife park and Blue mountains

When we were in Sydney we didn´t just stay in the city center. One day we booked a tour to the Blue Mountains. Something you really should do, it was stunning.

First part of the tour we went to Featherdale wildlife park. At the entrance a man met us holding the cutest little Wallaby. Then you got a couple of hours to just run around in the park looking at all the amazing Australian animals. We also got to pet a Koala, hold a snake and feed the kangaroo and wallabies! Fun for the whole family.

After some animal love we drove on. We stopped over a couple of times. Once to eat at a nice golf club with a good selection of food. Another time we stopped so the driver and guide cud show us how to trow a boomerang correctly. Very funny.

But the big part of the trip was when we arrived at the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains is a very big rainforest, it is called Blue Mountains because of the steam the eucalyptus trees makes, the steam make the rainforest look blue. Another part of of the Blue Mountains worth having a look at is the Three sisters. You can see them from far away or if you want to you can also climb them. The three sisters is three rock formations made of sandstone. It is a lot of legends and stories around those three stones. Our driver told us one:

The commonly told legend of the Three Sisters is that three sisters (Meehni’, ‘Wimlah’ and Gunnedoo’) lived in the Jamison Valley as members of the Katoomba tribe)they fell in love with three men from a neighbouring tribe (the Nepean tribe), but marriage was forbidden by tribal law.The brothers were not happy to accept this law and so decided to use force to capture the three sisters causing a major tribal battle. Battle ensued, and the sisters were turned to stone by an elder to protect them, but he was killed in the fighting and no one else could turn them back.

After looking at the Blue mountains and the Three Sisters from the view point we were taken to Scenic world. A kind of a fun park to get the chance to look closer at the rainforest. Here we too the steepest railway I have ever seen and a cable car with a beautiful view. It was also really cool to have a look at the rainforest from inside it. It has a lot of similarities if the Norwegian primeval forest.

Then we were taken to the river for our last part of the trip. We said goodbye to out awesome Australian driver and guide and jumped on a boat that took us down the river and in to the Rock. Harbour bridge and the Sydney Opera looked great at night.

Have a look at the video for some visuals from the trip.

Up to the top of Besseggen, Part 2

Last time I stopped when we arrived at Bessvatnet for a rest. This time the trip go on. Next part is to climb the part of the mountain called Bandet. This is the steepest part of the trip, were it´s not a walk anymore. But, mountain climbing. I find this very fun, have always liked to climb, its like a pussle finding the right way to climb. My mom on the other side didn´t find it that easy.

After this climb it has a little bit more hills, but no more climbing. Except a few hills at the end of the trip.

When we arrived a Veslfjell we found out that everyone that started at the same time as me and my mom now had managed to walk past us and we were all alone. The funny part with Norwegian mountains is that when you first reach the top, you soon find out that it is nothing there. The top of Norwegian mountains is the closest to a desert you can find in Norway. The only thing around is stone and moss, little life of anything.

One of the most famous part of Besseggen is a little bit of the mountain that stick out over the water. You can go out on that one and get a amazing view. A must see, if your not really afraid of hights ofcourse.

The last half on the way home I have to admit was not that fun. I was tired and cold after using 12 hours walking a tour that was suppose to take 8 hours. Not what I was expecting. We came back when the sun went down and gave us a definite end of the day.

I was supprised to see that our bags was lying and waiting for us still at the docks. All alone since everyone else already had collected theirs. We decided to drive home that night, needed a proper bed. But  soon found out that the minibus down to the car had stoped driving.

Thank God the nice shop owner said he was driving down anyway and would drive us down to the car, so we didn´t have to walk all the way down to the car again. Some people is just to good to be through.

It was a amazing trip that really is a good way to see some of the beautiful Norway. Absolutely a must do if you ever visit Norway, I wanr to do it again.

Up to the top of Besseggen part 1

Then the day of climbing finally arrived. We woke up  at half past 6 in the morning and went right down for some good breakfast. You also got small bags to make some sandwiches to bring on the walk.

Then we went down to the docks were you can leave your big bags. And then the boat will drive them over to Gjendesheim dock, where you can go and get them when you arrive on the other side.

We managed to be all done for 9 o´clock and started the long walk. Uselly it takes 6 – 8 hours to walk the whole way. You also have the possibility to climb a lot of other mountains round Besseggen if you want to stay for a couple of extra days.

When you walk Besseggen it is very important to follow the path and look after the big red T´s. Not only because it it very dangerous to get lost in the mountains, but also because you can destroy a lot of endangered vegetation.

Its a long trip and it so much beautiful things I want to show you. So day 3 is divided in two. This time I end it at Bessvatnet, we took a break here. The water is very clean and cold, so its a nice place to chill down and refill your water bottle. One thing that is really important is to use sun cream, because you are closer to the sun and its no shadows anywhere it is really easy to get sun burned.

To be continued.

Before Besseggen

For a year now my mom and I have talked about taking a trip to one of the famous mountain walks in Norway, Besseggen. We really wanted to take a mother daughter trip in the fresh air. Finally, summer 2010 we managed to arrange a trip like this.

First it´s a lot of planning, how to get there, what to bring, when the boat leave, where to stay and so on. Most of it is easy to find online. I am talking about in todays video. Yes, this time it´s the writer, filmer and editor that are the host as well. A bit of multitasking there. It is not much else to say about today. Next time the trip start for real, this time is more of a intro.

Roadtrip and Hangover

Ok, last night was a little bit messed up I have to admit. I got little sleep that night with a very drunk Dave in the room, but now we are in a new and fresh day with new possibilities. The breakfast was amazing, It was so many different things I didn´t know and still don´t know what was, but it was delicious. To bad for Dave that had a awful hangover and didn´t manage to eat anything.

After the breakfast we went on a nice roadtrip up the mountains. Here we found snow and beautiful views. It was really nice to sit in a car for once. In a nice comfortable, warm car, luxury for backpackers. It was a bad day weather vise, so it was a perfect way to use the day. Dry and nice inside but still able to see something. With Dave´s really bad hangover we had a really quiet day with little happening except sightseeing from the car.

In the end we arrived yet again in Tokyo for our last days in the big city!

Keep on watching who ever you are and tell me what you like or not like 🙂

Next episode is out same day, next week.
